The right paracolic gutter is continuous with the perisplenic space or area around the spleen. Disease may spread from the retroperitoneum which contains the aorta to the peritoneal space along the peritoneal cavity around aortic branches which extend into the mesenteries the so called subperitoneal space 4 5.
